The House of Yael

Torah, tea, and everything in between — the parsha, the home, the health, the news, and my own life running through all of it. Like gossip with your smartest friend, minus the part where she’s polite about it. Pull up a chair. The tea’s hot.

My Sleep Schedule Sucks, and Apparently So Does Gluten

So, this is no surprise: I’m moving from Florida to Massachusetts at the end of September. Six weeks to get the house packed up and get my mind, body, and soul in order too. Totally reasonable. Very achievable. No notes.

Every big move I’ve made, I’ve reinvented myself before I even left, so I show up already being who I want to be instead of arriving and trying to change after the fact. It’s worked every single time. So why not now, too?

Step one is admitting my current systems are held together with duct tape and vibes. Nutrition’s getting fixed: less processed food, more actual cooking instead of grabbing takeout at 9 PM and calling it a system. Training’s getting more serious too. Mornings stay non-negotiable, and afternoons are going toward a new goal I’ll get into properly over on Kosher Sweat this week.

And then there’s what goes on the body instead of in it. I’m testing oils right now, based on Torah botanicals: a cleanser, a face oil, a body oil, seeing which ones actually earn a permanent spot on the counter instead of just looking pretty in amber glass. Taking care of the body is a mitzvah, so I’m counting this as productive, not indulgent.

And then, sleep. My sleep schedule sucks. Not “could use some improvement” sucks. Actively hostile to my own goals sucks. I stay up too late, and then I can’t get up early enough for the gym. The 5 AM plan is more of a suggestion some mornings. Not entirely my fault, or at least that’s the story I’m telling myself: sugar after lunch and I’m up until 1 AM no matter how much magnesium tea I pour into myself like it’s a personality trait. And then there’s gluten, which I would very much like to enjoy again someday, except my skin has apparently unionized against it and starts itching the second it shows up. A genuinely unhinged way to try to get some zzzs.

My attitude’s already shifted, actually. My soul feels like it’s finally somewhere it belongs, surrounded by love, instead of still bracing for whatever’s next.

I don’t feel stuck in a dead end anymore. If anything, this whole thing is falling into place in a way that feels too on the nose to be coincidence. The house wasn’t even listed yet when we planned the trip to go look at houses. By the time we actually set out that morning, it had just gone on the market. Exact location I wanted. Perfect size. Fully furnished. Nobody’s convincing me that’s not Hashem driving. I’m just along for the ride at this point, trusting He’s got the wheel.

So as I head into this new chapter, I’m getting my life ready to meet the New Year, and whatever Hashem’s got lined up next. Which, based on recent performance, is apparently better than anything I could have planned myself.

Follow along for the daily journey.

Welcome to The House of Yael

House of Yael is the place I built because I couldn’t find what I needed anywhere else — a real, honest, Torah-grounded space for Jewish women who are trying to live with more intention, more faith, and more strength. Not a news ticker. Not a lecture. Just one Jewish woman documenting the journey of building a life that actually looks like what she believes — and inviting you to do the same.

This is for the woman who wants to go deeper in her faith, take better care of her body, navigate a complicated world with Jewish eyes, and build something that lasts.

You are in the right place.
